Meridian's Junior Auxiliary Ball - 2012

Meridian's Junior Auxiliary Ball
Meridian's Junior Auxiliary is asking its patrons to take a gamble on their charity ball, set for this Saturday.

The theme of this year's ball is casino night, and the event will feature 13 casino tables shipped in by a professional casino company from Biloxi. Ticket holders will be presented with gambling chips when they enter the ball, and will have the opportunity to buy more chips throughout the night.

At the end of the evening, chips will be traded in for raffle tickets of corresponding value. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Junior Auxiliary in their charitable pursuits.

Raffle prizes include a weekend hotel, meal, and spa package from Pearl River Resort, a 50-inch TV from Hooper's, and a "stock the bar" prize from Junior Auxiliary and the Corkscrew.

Along with the casino-themed activities, the event will feature heavy hors d'oeuvres catered by Pretty Presentations, live music from local band Luv Undercover, a silent auction, and the presentation of Junior Auxiliary Humanitarian of the Year Award to Trey Long for work with his 1 John 3:17 ministry.

The annual charity ball is the Junior Auxiliary largest fundraising event, and charity ball chairperson Mary Jane Collins said the organization is in special need of funding this year, with some programs in danger of being cut.

Charitable programs sponsored and organized by the Junior Auxiliary in Meridian are the Reading is Fundamental book distribution program for elementary school students; the Reality Check financial responsibility education program for high school students; the Helping Hands program distributing items to needy children; their Hope Village mentoring program; their Cinderella's Closet program for teen girls with good grades; their community events; and their mini-grants for teachers.

This year's ball will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, at the MSU Riley Center with doors opening at 7 p.m., the presentation of the humanitarian award at 7:30 p.m., and other activities beginning after the award presentation. Dress is cocktail attire.

Tickets to the event are $50 per person and are available by calling Michele Thames at (601) 917-7392. For more information on the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian, visit www.jameridian.org.

I hope to see you there!

This was a great evening and we raised a lot of money for the children in our area. We continue to address educational, health and social needs of children in our community and have for over 60 years!

Just a few of the photographs taken from the event.
