Meridian's newly restored City Hall has reclaimed its place as a majestic focal point in downtown. More than five years in the making, the doors of the nearly 100-year-old building were reopened to the public Tuesday, January 31, 2012, during an open house ceremony. An estimated 200 people gathered for the 'open house.'

 The cost to taxpayers was more money than anyone ever imagined when the project began.

Here is a look at just how overdue and over-budget the city hall renovation project ended up being. It was originally expected to open in the summer of 2009. The original cost estimate was $8 million, but ended up being more than twice that figure.
